Peacemaker Conference

We got an email the other day asking if we'd put an ad in the next issue of Not Your Friend about a conference for young people interested in peace and conflict issues. Unfortunately it takes place in October, before the next issue will be out (around November), so we are putting the details on here instead, for anyone who is interested.

NB: This is a PEACEMAKER not a PISSTAKER conference. The PISSTAKER conference occurs a few weeks beforehand.

Religious Rights and Wrongs in Contemporary Conflicts

27-29^th October 2006

The Fellowship of Reconciliation, an ecumenical Christian peace charity, is holding its second youth conference, on 27^th to 29^th October 2006. Entitled ‘Religious Rights and Wrongs in Contemporary Conflicts’, the event will provide an opportunity to explore the complicated history of religion’s role in conflict. The conference will provide a basic knowledge of the peace traditions of the major world religions. It will explore the increasing questions they are facing as fundamentalism expands in response to contemporary conflicts across the globe, and looks at personal responsibility towards these issues.

The weekend residential is being held for eighteen to thirty (ish) year olds to explore issues of personal, national and international peacemaking. The conference will provide both newcomers and experienced members of the peace movement with an opportunity to reflect, discuss, gain specific skills, and worship within a community of like-minded individuals. The event is being held at the Community for Reconciliation, near Birmingham, at a cost of £35 per person.

Welcome to the NYF Blog!

A very warm welcome to the not your Friend blog!

We decided it would be a good idea to have a website to accompany the not your Friend magazine, primarily because we could then let people download the .pdf's of each issue from there (in the rare event that they are not cool enough to be on our mailing list).

Then we realised that making a proper website is difficult.

It takes time and effort, of which we have neither (obviously because we're spending every spare minute creating the next fantastic issue of not your Friend!). So we decided on a blog - nice and simple, looks pretty professional and does the job we need it to do but is dead easy to maintain.

We're not planning on chronicling all the trials and tribulations of putting together the magazine, nor do we intend to put extra material that did not make publication on here (but who knows? it may happen in the future). For now we will just post links to where you can download each issue of NYF as it is published.

So, we thought the best place to start would be with issue 1, here to download in all its glory:
